It's time for tax reform.
Australians should be able to get ahead off their own work.
Right now, the system is tilted against working Australians. That needs to change.
Right now, the system is tilted against working Australians. That needs to change.
In Australia, if you earn your income from a job, you pay more tax than someone earning the same amount from their assets. In a country built on the idea of a fair go, that doesn’t track.
We need to rebalance our tax system so that more Australians, particularly younger Australians, have the opportunity to build wealth and security. That's why we're calling for Tax Reform Now. If you agree, let your MP know by clicking here.
I'm writing to ask you to support practical reform that rebalances how we treat income from work compared to income from assets.
I'm not sure whether proposed changes would personally advantage me or come at some cost. But I do believe reform is necessary.
A system where income earned from the hours people put in at work can be taxed more heavily than income earned from assets doesn't reflect the principle that effort should be rewarded.
We don't need to tear down the system. We need to rebalance it — in a way that is sustainable, credible and budget neutral.
Please support reform that strengthens fairness while maintaining aspiration and fiscal responsibility.
I'm writing as someone who benefited from an Australia where hard work opened doors.
Like many of my generation, while I had struggles of my own - I had the opportunity to work, buy a home, and build a strong future for my family. I'm concerned that younger Australians are now facing a system where the burden falls heavily on income earned during their working years — often when they're paying off university fees, raising families, and trying to secure housing.
That isn't the future I want for my children or grandchildren.
Even if sensible reform comes at some cost to people like me, I believe it is important to rebalance the system so work is properly rewarded and younger Australians have the same opportunities we enjoyed.
Please support responsible, budget-neutral reform that restores fairness and strengthens Australia's long-term future.
I'm writing as a younger Australian who has worked hard and wants the chance to build a secure future.
Many of us are doing everything we were told would set us up — studying, working, saving — but it feels harder than ever to get ahead. The system today means income earned from the hours we put in at work can be taxed more heavily than income earned from assets. That doesn't reflect the fair go most Australians believe in.
I don't think anyone wants Australia to be set up this way. We don't need radical change — we need to rebalance the system so work is rewarded again, while keeping aspiration and wealth-building alive.
Please support responsible, sustainable reform that gives my generation — and those younger than me — a genuine chance to build the Australian dream.
I'm writing to ask you to ensure Australians get a fair return on the natural resources that belong to all of us.
Australia is one of the most resource-rich nations on earth. Our gas, oil and minerals are a shared national inheritance - and right now, too much of that wealth is leaving our shores without a fair return to the Australian people.
The current arrangements aren't working for ordinary Australians. Oil and gas companies are recording extraordinary profits, boosted further by the current conflict in the Middle East. Meanwhile households, struggling to get ahead, are inheriting high rates of government debt and fewer natural resources to pay for it. That imbalance isn’t right and this doesn’t reflect the Australia we want for the future.
Other nations have found ways to ensure their country benefits from national resources over the long term. I hope our government can do the same.
Please support responsible, sustainable reform of how Australia taxes its natural resources, and commit to putting the long-term prosperity of Australians first.

The major parties have baulked at change because stirring up political opposition is always easier than arguing for reform.
But everyone knows change is necessary, and this year real reform finally seems possible.
Independent MP Allegra Spender has spent over three years consulting experts, stakeholders and community groups to produce a Tax Green Paper and now her first white paper of recommendations for personal tax reform.
