I'm writing to ask you to ensure Australians get a fair return on the natural resources that belong to all of us.

Australia is one of the most resource-rich nations on earth. Our gas, oil and minerals are a shared national inheritance - and right now, too much of that wealth is leaving our shores without a fair return to the Australian people.

The current arrangements aren't working for ordinary Australians. Oil and gas companies are recording extraordinary profits, boosted further by the current conflict in the Middle East. Meanwhile households, struggling to get ahead, are inheriting high rates of government debt and fewer natural resources to pay for it. That imbalance isn’t right and this doesn’t reflect the Australia we want for the future.

Other nations have found ways to ensure their country benefits from national resources over the long term. I hope our government can do the same.

Please support responsible, sustainable reform of how Australia taxes its natural resources, and commit to putting the long-term prosperity of Australians first.
